A single-cask Panamanian column-still rum from French bottler Compagnie des Indes, drawn from a 2009 vintage at just over thirteen years, matured in ex-bourbon oak and bottled unsweetened at 43%.
Description
Compagnie des Indes is a respected, terroir-led French independent, and this Panama single cask sits in its natural, unsweetened style. The spirit is a column-still molasses rum from Panama, a country whose rons tend to be soft, mellow and vanilla-spiced, often sourced from the large Varela Hermanos distillery that supplies many independent bottlers. At just over thirteen years in ex-bourbon oak and bottled at 43% without added sugar, this should show the clean, gently spiced Panamanian character with the bottler's hands-off approach letting the cask and tropical ageing speak. Without dosage to round it off, expect a drier, more spirit-forward read than the sweeter Spanish-style norm, closer to how the distillate actually ages.
