A 15 Year Old Hampden DOK at 58.7%, the distillery’s highest ester mark rounded by age into overripe tropical fruit, marzipan and glue over balanced wood, with a long, dry, ester driven finish.
Description
This single cask of Hampden carries the DOK mark, the highest ester recipe Jamaica produces, distilled in 2009 and bottled at around 15 years and 58.7% by Heinz Eggert for the Rum Artesanal line. Rum Artesanal is a respected German bottler working in the unsweetened, full proof tradition, and Hampden is the reference point for high ester funk.
DOK sits at the legal ceiling, but a decade and a half in Ex-Bourbon oak has made this surprisingly rounded for the mark. Overripe tropical fruit and pineapple lead, with marzipan and a glue and solvent edge over balanced wood, then a long, dry, ester driven finish. Distilled from long wild fermented molasses on the house double retort pot stills and bottled without added sugar, it shows how age tempers even Hampden's loudest recipe while keeping the funk firmly in charge.
