A 26 year old Dictador single cask from a 1997 vintage, matured in American oak and leaning sweet and oily, with apricot, candied orange, vanilla and coffee carrying into a dried-fruit finish at 44%.
Description
This Dictador Obra release is a single cask of Colombian rum distilled in 1997 and bottled at 26 years old from American oak, sitting in the upper, cask-selected tier of the house range. Dictador belongs to the Spanish, solera-leaning school, and its familiar coffee, vanilla and oak character is present here in a single-barrel form drawn from molasses spirit.
Nearly three decades of American-oak ageing give it an oily, coating texture and a sweet, fruit-led profile, with apricot, vanilla and coffee on the nose moving into candied orange and bright citrus on the palate. A long, sweet finish carries coffee and dried fruit, and that sweetness sits comfortably within the style rather than reading as bone dry. Bottled at 44%, it is soft, slow and dessert-leaning, an after-dinner Colombian ron for drinkers who like real age behind the Dictador name.
