A dry, unsweetened Naga, the 12 Years Siam Edition bottled at 43%, leaning on caramel, vanilla, chocolate and plenty of oak with herbal touches, a wood-forward step away from sweeter Asian rums.
Description
Naga 12 Years Siam Edition is a distillery bottling, aged twelve years and presented unsweetened at 43%. Marketed under the Thai-flavoured Naga banner, it leans firmly into the dry, wood-led side rather than the sweet, soft profile common to much Asian rum, making it a useful step toward drier styles.
Matured in ex-bourbon oak, the nose shows wood, vanilla, sweetness and butterscotch, while the palate brings wood, vanilla, a caramelised edge and a spirity note. The finish stays woody, with tobacco, caramel and more caramelisation. Wood dominates throughout, with caramel and chocolate underneath and herbal, vegetal and light fruity touches around the edges, plus a faint glue note on opening. The creamy caramel can recall Venezuelan rum, but the dry, unsweetened build keeps it firmly out of dessert territory. It works as a casual sipper for drinkers exploring drier Asian rum at an easy strength.
