A cask strength single cask Worthy Park from 2008 bottled by Watt Rum, the marque WPL, fifteen years old at 55.1%, ripe banana and tropical fruit ester over pineapple, candied fruit and brown sugar.
Description
Watt Rum selected this 2008 Worthy Park, marque WPL, as a single cask, aged fifteen years in ex-bourbon and bottled at cask strength 55.1%. Worthy Park is a single-estate St. Catherine distillery whose pot still rums are clean and precise, and WPL is its lighter mark, so this offers Worthy Park fruit and ester without the heaviest funk intensity.
Distilled on pot still from molasses, it noses on tropical fruit, ripe fruit, ester and banana, the Jamaican markers clear but polished in the Worthy Park manner. The palate brings pineapple, candied fruit, a medicinal note and brown sugar, the strength giving it grip and concentration. Fifteen years in ex-bourbon has added oak depth while keeping the bright fruit intact. Unsweetened and bottled from a single barrel at full proof, this is a fruit-forward, well-aged Worthy Park for drinkers who want the distillery's clean ester character with the body and intensity that cask strength and a decade and a half of maturation provide.
