A single cask Diamond 2001 carrying a Port Mourant character, bottled by Precious Liquors from Guyana's heritage stock at Diamond. The marque points to the oily, liquorice-laden PM recipe, here presented at a lower, more sippable strength and showing an unusually clean, fresh side of the style rather than its heaviest face.

Maturated from molasses and finished in port wood at 45.2%, it noses on tropical fruit, apple, wood and caramel, then turns to a light rubbery note with burnt sugar, caramel and dried fruit, finishing on wood, dried and tropical fruit and roasted notes, with pear, liquorice and tea threading underneath. Unsweetened and at moderate strength, it keeps the Port Mourant profile in an easier, cleaner package than the full-proof versions, the burnt-sugar note that runs through Guyana rum well to the fore. A focused, contemplative sipper that favours clarity over weight.
