Rum Runner is the independent label behind this thirteen year old Dominican, distilled in 2010 at Alcoholes Finos Dominicanos and matured in a single ex-bourbon cask before bottling at a full 61.7%. Dominican ron sits in the Spanish style: molasses fermented short and run through a column still for a clean, approachable base that leans on the barrel for its character.
Matured in ex-bourbon oak, a Dominican column rum of this age typically shows vanilla, toffee and dried fruit, and at cask strength that weight arrives concentrated. Spanish-style ron in this mould often runs sweet and rounded rather than dry, so expect a soft, buttery profile rather than a lean one, with water on hand to open it up.
