A cask-strength single cask Guadeloupe agricole from Bologne, 2014 and nine years in ex-bourbon at 59.54%, made from the estate’s black-cane variety, with tropical fruit and citrus over candied fruit, caramel and a peppery, toasted-oak finish.
Description
Bologne is a historic Guadeloupe distillery, and this Les Exclusifs release comes from its black-cane variety, Canne Noire. The spirit is rhum agricole from fresh-pressed sugar-cane juice, this single cask drawn from a 2014 vintage, aged nine years in ex-bourbon oak and bottled unsweetened at cask strength.
The single-cane sourcing gives a distinct expression of terroir. The nose carries sugar-cane, tropical fruit, confectionery and citrus, while the palate turns to candied fruit, caramel and a peppery spice. The finish is woody and toasted with more pepper and spice. At 59.54% it is powerful and full, tropical ageing having built deep oak and spice over the green cane base without softening its drive. A robust, terroir-led Guadeloupe single cask that shows the potential of the black-cane harvest at full proof.
