Chalong Bay's Double Barrel is a cane juice rum from Thailand, pot distilled in the agricole manner and aged across new American oak and ex-bourbon casks. At 51% and unsweetened, it pairs a tropical agricole base with a strong, oak forward maturation.
The virgin oak and bourbon casks shape much of the character, the nose dominated by bourbon, wood and barrel with vanilla, caramel and toast, while the palate brings dried fruit, fruitiness, caramel and a clear sugarcane note. The finish turns dry and grassy with bourbon and vegetal agricole tones reasserting the cane juice origin. No sugar is added, so the sweetness reads as cask derived against a dry backbone.
