This Chairman's Reserve Master's Selection, bottled for La Maison du Whisky's New Vibrations collection, draws a single pot-still cask of Saint Lucia rum from the 2006 vintage at 15 years old. Matured in ex-bourbon oak and bottled unsweetened at 59 percent, it is a single cask squarely for experienced palates.
The profile is dark and characterful: tobacco, leather and roasted wood lead, with ripe tropical fruit underneath and a distinctive cooling menthol streak running through the palate and finish. There is a faintly dirty, funky edge that adds intrigue, and the wood, while assertive, stays in balance. A little time and air let it unfold, softening the alcohol and drawing out the fruit. For drinkers who enjoy dry, pot-still Saint Lucia at strength, it is a rewarding and absorbing sipper.
