Toasted oak, dried fruit, allspice and soft caramel run through this 29 Year Old Enmore EHP from The Colours of Rum, a single cask off the wooden Coffey still bottled at a gentle 43.5 percent, elegant if a touch watery.
Description
The Colours of Rum bottled this single cask of Enmore carrying the EHP marque from 1993, twenty-nine years old. EHP comes off the Enmore wooden Coffey still, the last operating wooden Coffey anywhere, a continuous still whose mark is lighter and more led by cedar than the heavy Port Mourant pot.
Molasses based and matured in ex-bourbon oak, it shows the classic Enmore signature of toasted oak, dried fruit, plum, aniseed, liquorice and pepper, with vanilla and soft caramel rounding the finish. Bottled at a gentle 43.5 percent, it leans fresh and elegant rather than powerful, and at that strength some find it a touch light for its age. Still, the wooden Coffey character comes through clearly, an easy drinking, classically spiced old Enmore for unhurried evenings.
