Prune, dried fruit, leather and tobacco over dark wood make this 34 Year Old Enmore from Silver Seal an elegant, dry single cask at a measured 47.9 percent, the cask influence firmly to the fore.
Description
Silver Seal bottled this single cask of Enmore from the 1988 vintage in its New Vibrations line, an elegant thirty-four year old. The label names Enmore, the estate home to Guyana's wooden Coffey still, and the long maturation has left a dry, deeply woody spirit where the oak has very much had its say.
Molasses based and matured in ex-bourbon oak to a dry, unsweetened finish, it leads with a splendid nose of prune, wood and light leather. The palate is tight and tannic with stewed dark fruit, the finish woody with dried fruit, tobacco and barrel. After three and a half decades the cask sits front and centre, and some will find it on the timbered side, but the fruit and leather hold their ground. At 47.9 percent it is a refined, dry old Enmore best taken neat and slowly by patient tasters.
