A twelve year old Dominican ron bottled by Corman Collins under the Arturo Makasare name, a column still molasses rum aged in ex-bourbon wood with leather, roasted oak, nutty depth and a round, sweet, orange tinged finish at 44%.
Description
Corman Collins selected this Arturo Makasare release from Dominican Republic rum, a column distilled molasses spirit in the soft Spanish style. At twelve years it sits between the young everyday rons and the deeply aged anniversary bottlings, with the cask doing the shaping over a light base.
The ex-bourbon ageing gives a savoury, oak driven character. Wood, roasted notes, leather and a nutty quality open the nose, leading into a round palate that turns sweet alongside more wood and roasted depth, before a finish of sweetness, oak, orange and a spicy edge. It carries a touch more structure than the standard Dominican rons while keeping their approachable nature. Bottled at 44% with the sugar status undeclared, it leans gently sweet rather than dry. A well rounded, oak forward pour for drinkers who enjoy mid aged Dominican ron with some leather and nut depth.
