A 23 year old single cask Diamond pot still bottled by Hunter Laing for Kill Devil, full proof at 62.9% and uncompromising, with metallic oak, vanilla and liquorice on the nose and a mineral, anise-laced palate that pushes to the extremes.
Description
Diamond Kill Devil 1999 is a single cask Demerara from the Diamond distillery, selected and bottled by the Scottish whisky house Hunter Laing for its Kill Devil rum line. As a pot still spirit it sits toward the heavier, more characterful end of Guyana, and it has been left at cask strength and natural, non-chill-filtered in the house style, which lets every angle of a powerful old cask show.
Matured in ex-bourbon wood for 23 years and bottled at 62.9%, this is a rum that pushes hard. The nose is metallic and oaky with vanilla and liquorice, while the palate runs mineral and barrel-driven with anise and a tart, medicinal edge that swings from bone-dry to bitter wood. It is polarising and intense, the sort of full-proof Demerara that challenges rather than soothes. For drinkers who chase the extreme, dry, woody side of Guyana, this delivers it at full volume.
