A cask strength Guadeloupe agricole from Longueteau, a single-plot red cane bottling from the 2018 vintage at a fierce 71.4%, intense with citrus and tropical fruit over young wood, white pepper and lime.
Description
Longueteau, founded in 1895, is the oldest family-owned agricole distillery still running in Guadeloupe, working from fresh-pressed sugar-cane juice under the island's IGP. This Genesis Collection bottling is an unreduced brut de fut from the 2018 vintage, made from R579 red cane grown on a single plot.
Distilled on the distillery's Creole column and aged around four years before bottling at full strength of 71.4%, it is a powerhouse not meant to open a tasting. The nose carries woody citrus, tropical fruit and a strong vegetal cane note, the palate turns peppery and spicy with young wood, and the finish stays bright with citrus, lime, tropical fruit and sugarcane. The single-plot red cane and uncut strength give it a vivid terroir signature, and it rewards a careful approach and a drop of water for those who like their agricole at full power.
