Description
RomDeluxe, the Danish bottler known for high-strength single casks, has selected a 2007 Foursquare bearing the marque MBFSWM. Bottled unsweetened at a powerful 60.7 percent, it draws on the Barbados distillery whose no-additives, single-blended approach defines the island's serious rum.
Despite the strength the nose is fresh and soft, light coconut and sweet fruit with faint caramel and chocolate, while the palate is oily and balanced with mild wood and a natural sweetness from the cask alone. The finish runs on chocolate, roasted oak and malt. Distilled from molasses on Foursquare's pot and column stills and matured in ex-bourbon across 15 years, it is dry and additive-free, the sweetness coming from oak rather than dosage. Tasters describe it as very drinkable with a long, satisfying aftertaste, an approachable cask-strength Bajan that wears its proof lightly.
