St. Nicholas Abbey Foursquare 20 Years old

St. Nicholas Abbey is the boutique estate on Barbados, a Jacobean great house that revived rum production in 2006. Its older bottlings predate its own distillery, drawn from spirit laid down at Foursquare and matured on the Abbey grounds, which is the story behind this twenty year old single cask, bottled unsweetened at 40%.

The molasses distillate carries the island's pot and column character, aged two decades in a single ex-bourbon cask and showing the influence of long tropical maturation. Woody baking spice, clove and licorice lead the nose, while the palate turns candied with caramel and apricot over a firm oak frame. At a gentle strength and free of additives, it makes an easy, polished sipper that leans on age and clean Bajan distillate rather than added sweetness, true to the Abbey's estate-bottled, authentic approach.
