An 18 year old single cask Neisson from the 2004 vintage, tropically aged in ex-bourbon to deep dried fruit, chocolate and cinnamon, with roasted nuts and a woody, citrus edged finish at 49.4%.
Description
Neisson 18 Years 2004 comes from the small Neisson family distillery in Martinique, a favourite working within the island's rum AOC. Distilled from fresh pressed cane juice on a creole column still, this is a single cask from the 2004 vintage, matured at origin in ex-bourbon wood and bottled at a natural 49.4%.
Eighteen years of tropical ageing show in the depth: dried fruit, chocolate and earthy spice on the nose, then cinnamon, oak and roasted almond across a palate that keeps the grassy agricole core under layers of mature wood. The finish runs woody and long with dried and tropical fruit and a citrus lift. High angel's share in the Caribbean heat means this drinks well beyond its stated age, a contemplative pour for drinkers who like aged agricole with red fruit and tobacco warmth rather than sweetness.
