A 21-year Long Pond VRW at cask strength, a softer, low-ester Jamaican leaning sweet and fruity with banana, mango and stone fruit over gentle spice and vanilla, certified unsweetened at 56.2%.
Description
CoR Long Pond No. 11 is a single cask from The Colours of Rum, the Warsaw purist bottler working cask strength with no additives. Distilled at Long Pond in 2000 from the VRW marque and bottled at twenty-one years old, it shows an unusual side of the house: Long Pond is known for ultra-funky high-ester rum, but VRW is a deliberately low-ester mark, so this drinks gentle and fruit-led.
Distilled on the double-retort pot still from molasses and matured in ex-bourbon oak, the low ester level lets soft fruit and wood lead rather than solvent funk. The nose is banana, mango, vanilla and tropical fruit; the palate carries vanilla, banana, mango and gentle spice, closing on tropical fruit, spice and light wood. Certified unsweetened and bottled at cask strength of 56.2%, its natural sweetness comes from fruit and oak, not additives. An easygoing, approachable cask-strength Long Pond for explorers who want the distillery's softer, low-funk lane sipped neat.
