A four year Marie-Galante agricole from Bielle, distilled on a creole column from cane juice and aged in ex-bourbon, floral and earthy with sugarcane, pecan and woody barrel spice over a cocoa-laced finish, bottled at 45%.
Description
This anniversary bottling is an aged agricole from Bielle on Marie-Galante, made from fresh sugar-cane juice rather than molasses, released for the Grand Pavois at La Rochelle in 2017. Bielle is known on Marie-Galante for its cane-variety experiments and high-proof blancs, and here turns to a vieux-style cane-juice rum given four years in ex-bourbon oak and bottled at a sociable 45%.
The creole-column spirit keeps the cane character present while tropical ageing adds an oaky frame. Expect a floral nose of sugarcane, pecan and wood, an earthy, woody palate with clear cane and barrel notes, and a finish of wood, allspice, chocolate and cocoa. The profile balances the fresh, grassy side of agricole against gentle roasted oak. At 45% it is approachable and well rounded, an aged Marie-Galante agricole that shows the island's cane through a layer of cocoa-tinged wood.
