1423 bottled this 2020 Port Mourant young and at full proof for its transparent S.B.S range, a striking contrast to the decades-old Demeraras the still usually fronts. Even at two years, the greenheart double wooden pot still stamps its character firmly on the spirit, and the virgin oak adds an aggressive wood influence fast.
Distilled from molasses and matured in fresh oak, it shows young wood, nuts and herbs on the nose, then vanilla, roasted notes and pepper on a palate already carrying the still's herbal sweetness, finishing salty, woody and spiced. Bottled unsweetened at 66.4%, it is raw and powerful rather than polished, striking for how much flavour it has pulled from the barrel so quickly. It makes a bold neat pour for the curious and a powerhouse base for Tiki drinks.
