A 18 Year Old Versailles single wooden pot still rum bottled dry at 59%, with citrus, dark honey, tea, liquorice and a clear medicinal, iodine edge, a serious crossover pour for whisky drinkers.
Description
Rum Nation bottled this 2004 Versailles in its Rare Rums tier, where the rums are left dry, drawing on the single wooden pot still that sits between Enmore and Port Mourant in weight: robust, bright and tannic. The VSG character is unmistakable here, all raw wood and savoury depth.
Distilled from molasses on the wooden pot still and matured in ex-bourbon at cask strength, it shows wood, citrus, iodine and spice on the nose, then wood, citrus, a malty whisky-like quality and pepper on the palate, finishing dry on wood and molasses. The medicinal, iodine register and clear malt influence make it a natural bridge for Scotch drinkers. This is a dry, layered sipping rum rather than a mixer, built around the still rather than any added sweetness.
