Romdeluxe New Make No 7 – White

Romdeluxe, the Danish bottler behind the high-ester Wild Series, turns here to Vietnam for a New Make White, an unaged cane-juice spirit bottled at a powerful 65%. Vietnamese rum is a rare sight, and this organic-leaning, long-fermented white sits firmly in the funky, agricole-adjacent camp, made without added sugar.

The long ferment shows immediately: the nose is fermentary and medicinal with yoghurt-like tang and fresh sugar-cane, while the palate runs fruity and grassy with a clear anise note. The finish is dry with more sugarcane and a surprising espresso edge. At full 65% strength it is raw, vivid and unapologetically intense, closer in spirit to a clairin or high-ester long-ferment white than to a polished sipper. One for drinkers who chase unaged funk and want to taste cane spirit at its most elemental.
