Kraken Black Spiced Rum

Kraken is a spiced rum based on young Trinidad molasses distillate, aged a couple of years and then sweetened and spiced into its signature dark, viscous house style. At 40% it is built for accessibility and mixing rather than neat contemplation, and it makes no pretence of being a dry aged rum.

The profile is unapologetically sweet, leading with vanilla, caramel and brown sugar, then coffee, cola and a wave of baking spice with a hint of cherry and marzipan. The sweetness carries right through a long, sugary, faintly bitter finish, so this reads more like a flavoured liqueur than a traditional rum. That makes it a natural for rum and cola, mules and baking, where its richness and spice do the work. For drinkers exploring drier, more structured rums it is best kept as a mixer, but on its own terms it is a crowd-pleasing, easy-drinking spiced bottle.
