A 22 Year Old column-still Long Pond bottled by Maison Ferrand, fruity and approachable with pineapple, banana and glue on the nose giving way to tropical fruit, pepper and pear, bottled unsweetened at cask strength, 49.4%.
Description
This 22 Year Old single cask comes from Long Pond, the historic Trelawny Wedderburn house, but is drawn from the column still rather than the estate's heavier pot, bottled by Maison Ferrand in a single-cask limited edition. Distilled from molasses in 1998 and matured in ex-bourbon, the column stock gives a lighter, cleaner spirit than Long Pond's funkiest pot-still marks, here aged two decades at cask strength.
The nose still reads Jamaican, pineapple, glue, banana and fruit, while the palate turns rounder and softer with tropical fruit, wood and black pepper, and the finish brings allspice, pepper, pineapple and pear. Bottled at 49.4% and unsweetened, it drinks lively for its strength yet stays approachable, the column origin softening the funk into something fruity and easy. This is a gentler, more accessible side of Long Pond for drinkers who want the house fruit without the heaviest pot-still intensity.
