Description
Le Gus't Engenhos do Norte Rum 2006 is a single cask agricole-style rum from the Engenhos do Norte distillery on Madeira, bottled by Le Gus't. Made from fresh-pressed cane juice, Madeira being one of the rare places outside the French islands allowed the agricole name, it carries fifteen years of age at 52.6%.
Matured in a Madeira wine cask, it shows a floral, unusual nose of candied fruit cake, light varnish and rose alongside vegetal cane, with grapes, honey and a touch of licorice on a full-bodied palate. The wine cask is clearly present yet leaves room for the cane juice and fine oak to stay in balance, finishing on milk chocolate and young wood. Certified unsweetened, it offers genuine gourmand depth and fair value for its age.
