An unsweetened Fijian single cask from South Pacific, bottled at cask strength by Dram Mor, balanced funk wrapped around papaya and tropical fruit, green tea and honey, with a dry, peppery, woody finish at 60%.
Description
Dram Mor South Pacific Single Cask Rum 2009 is a twelve year old single cask from the South Pacific Distilleries in Fiji, bottled by the Scottish independent Dram Mor. Matured in an ex bourbon barrel, reportedly a Buffalo Trace cask, it is bottled unsweetened at cask strength, 60%, in the honest, no frills style the bottler has built its name on.
Fiji belongs to the funky, ester rich school, and this cask shows the distillery markers clearly: green tea, waxy and vegetal notes, papaya and a dirty, fruity edge. The nose is tropical and a little wild, the palate creamy then peppery and dry with esters, and the finish leans on tropical fruit, tea and a touch of olive. It rewards patience in the glass and a little air to open. Rather than the fruitiest Fiji, this is a focused, well integrated bottling, dry and characterful, for drinkers who already enjoy high strength funk.
