Description
Velier, the Genoese name at the centre of collectible rum, released this Hampden HLCF distilled in 2016 and aged five years, here in magnum format. Hampden is the high-ester benchmark, and the HLCF marque sits in its fuller, fruitier band of pineapple and banana.
Distilled from molasses on a double-retort pot still and matured in ex-bourbon wood, it shows pineapple, ester, banana and mango on the nose, then the same fruit threaded with olive on the palate, before a finish of mango, olive, pineapple and oak. Some drinkers find it among the most coherent HLCF bottlings, with fruit, spice and wood in step rather than one dominating. Bottled at 60% and unsweetened, it pushes the fruity-funky profile with real intensity while staying balanced, a young Hampden that rewards funk fans comfortable with cask strength and the licorice-and-smoke edge five tropical years bring.
