A fifteen year old Saint James from Velier, dry and woody with coffee, cherry and honey on the nose and vanilla, licorice and caramel on the palate, smooth and mature at an integrated 45%.
Description
This Elliott Erwitt magnum is a fifteen year old Saint James selected by Velier, pairing Martinique's oldest agricole house, distilling since 1765, with the most prestigious name in collectible rum. Drawn from the 2006 harvest and bottled unsweetened at 45%, it sits well into vieux territory, where tropical ageing lends an older agricole more depth than the years alone imply.
Distilled from fresh cane juice on a creole column and matured in ex-bourbon oak under island heat, it has grown dry and woody with real aromatic reach: coffee, cherry, honey and oak on the nose, then vanilla, licorice and caramel across a structured palate. Tobacco, coffee and black pepper carry the long finish. At 45% the strength is well integrated, giving depth without heat, an elegant neat pour for drinkers who already love aged Saint James and dry agricole and want maturity without high proof.
