A cask-strength Marie-Galante agricole from Bielle, Brut de Fut 2003, rich with coconut, burnt sugar and butterscotch turning to caramel, wood and a minty green-pepper snap, dry and full at 53.4%.
Description
Bielle is a Marie-Galante distillery known for cane-variety experiments and high-proof bottlings, working from fresh sugar cane juice. This Brut de Fut 2003 is a vintage cask-strength agricole, distilled on a column still and bottled without reduction at 53.4%.
Tropical ageing has given it a notably rich, dessert-like aromatic register while keeping its agricole spine, the nose layering coconut, burnt sugar, butterscotch and tropical fruit, the palate turning woody with sugarcane, caramel and spice. The finish swings back toward freshness with mint, green pepper and a sugarcane lift. Unsweetened despite its sweet-toned aromas, it balances the pastry-like depth of long oak against the green snap of cane juice, a satisfying older Marie-Galante rum for slow sipping where its full body and contrast can be savoured.
