Mezan Diamond 2007

A single cask Diamond 2007 from Mezan, the bottler known for unsweetened, naturally presented rum. It comes off the Diamond distillery's metal column still, the lightest and cleanest of Guyana's heritage configurations, here showing an unusually tropical, fruit-led face rather than the dark molasses register of the wooden pots.

Maturated from molasses in ex-bourbon wood at 57%, it noses on dried fruit, coconut, chocolate and banana, then delivers espresso, dried fruit and coconut over wood, with the finish leaning into tropical fruit, coconut and pineapple. Unsweetened and bottled at cask strength, it lets the column still's clean fruit drive while the cask adds coffee and chocolate depth, the coconut note running right through. An approachable yet characterful Diamond for drinkers who want the lighter, fruitier side of Guyana at full proof.
