A 1999 single vintage from Caroni, the legendary Trinidad distillery that closed in 2003, bottled by Good Spirits at 13 Years Old and 46% from molasses laid down in ex-bourbon oak.
Description
Caroni stood on the Caroni plain in Trinidad from 1918 until it closed in 2003, and its stocks have since become some of the most sought after in rum. This 1999 vintage was selected and bottled by the independent house Good Spirits at 46%, drawn from molasses distillate aged 13 Years Old in ex-bourbon oak.
Caroni is prized for its heavy, oily marks, the archetypal industrial Trinidad style. Expect a savoury, smoky character typical of the house: notes of tar, diesel and warm rubber over dried tropical fruit, leather and deep oak, all carried on a dense oily body. At 46% it sits a step above standard strength while staying approachable, an honest sipper for those drawn to the distinctive petrol-and-fruit signature of this closed distillery.
