A cask strength Jamaican blend of Hampden and Worthy Park pot still rum aged seven years in ex-bourbon oak, pushing ripe pineapple and tropical fruit through bright esters and spicy wood, full of funk yet still drinkable at navy strength.
Description
Papalin Jamaica is Velier's pot still blend drawing on two of the island's most respected high-ester houses, Hampden and Worthy Park, aged seven years and bottled at a hefty 57.18%. Both distilleries work with long fermentation and double-retort pot stills, and the vatting brings their fruity, ester-driven funk together in one additive-free, full proof bottling.
Molasses-based and tropically influenced, it leads with overripe tropical fruit and pineapple lifted by the solventy esters that mark Jamaican rum, with honey, cherry and spicy oak filling the finish. The funk here is bright and fruit-forward rather than the brooding extreme of the highest marques, which keeps it expressive while remaining manageable to sip neat. At navy strength it carries real Jamaican character and works equally well as a backbone for cocktails, a punchy, honest blend for drinkers who want the funk without chasing a single distillery.
