This Karukera Double Distillat 2008 is a Guadeloupe rum that bridges two worlds, built from both molasses and sugarcane juice and matured eight years in ex-bourbon oak. Karukera, relaunched in 2002 and known for its single-cane bottlings, sits under Guadeloupe's IGP, and this release lands dry and unsweetened at 45.2%.

The dual feedstock gives it agricole-style freshness alongside molasses richness, the nose fresh and woody with a whisky-like edge. The palate turns woody and leathery with cocoa and a caramelized note, the finish earthy and warm with a sappy, woody close. Drinkers enjoy the mix of agricultural lift and molasses depth, caramel, coconut and citrus mingling with leather. It is a characterful, nuanced sipper, dry and easy enough in strength to drink at length while keeping enough quirks to stay interesting. Neat is the way to take it.
