A relaxed fifteen-year Appleton from Jamaica, a pot and column blend aged in ex-bourbon oak, easygoing with soft funk, vanilla, caramel and tropical fruit over toasted, burnt-sugar wood at 43%.
Description
Appleton 15 Years Black River Casks comes from Appleton Estate, the mainstream and most accessible face of Jamaican rum. It is a blend of pot and column still spirit, the house style long shaped by master blender Joy Spence, leaning on smoothness, oak and balance rather than the high-ester intensity of the island's funkier houses.
Fifteen years of tropical ageing in ex-bourbon casks gives extra oak over the standard expressions, carrying vanilla, caramel and tropical fruit with a relaxed, low-ester funk and a woody, spicy, burnt-sugar finish. It is unsweetened, so the sweetness reads as cask and cane rather than dosage, and the column component keeps everything soft and clean alongside the pot-still weight. At 43% it is calm and approachable, a smooth and balanced sipper for anyone who enjoys Appleton 12 or other gentle pot-plus-column Jamaicans and wants a little more age and oak.
