An eighteen year old single cask from the iconic Port Mourant double wooden pot still, a 2002 vintage finished in port and bottled at cask strength by Kyoto Fine Wine and Spirits at 50.2%.
Description
Port Mourant is the most famous of all the Demerara heritage stills, a double wooden pot still built from greenheart, and its rums are the backbone of old Navy blends. This single cask, a 2002 vintage aged eighteen years and finished in port, was selected by Kyoto Fine Wine and Spirits and bottled undiluted at 50.2%.
Pot-still Port Mourant in the house style tends to be oily and powerful, leaning on anise and liquorice, dark dried fruit, pencil shavings and a savoury edge of tar and smoke, and a port cask would be expected to deepen the prune and plum register. Bottled at full strength from a single cask, this is the raw still character with nothing sanded off, finite by definition.
