Romdeluxe Limited Batch Series GHANA ARC 2020

RomDeluxe is the Danish house behind some of the funkiest high strength single casks around, and this Limited Batch Series bottling is a young Ghanaian rum made from fresh pressed sugar cane juice, agricole in spirit though far from the French appellation. It is pot distilled, aged barely over half a year in virgin oak and bottled as a single cask at 60.3%, unsweetened and unapologetically wild.

Virgin oak works fast on a young, ester driven spirit, so toasty new wood, tannins and sandalwood frame a riot of red fruit, strawberry and flowers, glue and acetone, and a savoury, salty licorice streak that several tasters single out. It drinks far older than its age, earthy and musty with a warm, dry finish. This is for drinkers with some cask strength experience who actively seek out funk, an unusual and polarising bottle that turns its youth into part of the show.
