A vibrant ten year old Hampden LROK from Velier, tropically aged into marzipan, buttered fruit and honey over the estate’s banana and glue funk, dry and long at cask strength.
Description
Part of Velier's Endemic Birds series, this Elaenia release is a single cask of Hampden LROK distilled in 2010. Velier is the most prestigious name in collectible rum, and its Hampden bottlings are tropically aged, full proof and additive free, capturing the Trelawny estate's high ester pot still character at its most expressive.
Ten years in ex-bourbon under Caribbean heat have built real depth around the marque's banana and gluey ester core, adding marzipan, buttery richness, tropical fruit and honey. At 61.9 percent the spirit is intense, with a dry, long finish carrying young wood, papaya and spice. Bottled unsweetened, it is a vivid example of aged Hampden for drinkers ready for the strength, best given time to rest in the glass.
