Rum Nation Meticho Citrus Spirit Drink

Meticho is a citrus flavoured rum spirit drink bottled by Rum Nation, built on a Guatemalan base and leaning hard into bright lemon and orange. Despite the respected name behind it, this is a deliberately light, sweet and zesty bottling pitched at cocktails rather than the contemplative single casks the house also makes, at a soft 40%.

The nose is dominated by citrus, lime and lemon peel over a little tropical fruit. The palate stays sweet and lemon led, with orange and more citrus, and a short finish. There is no pretence of classic rum depth here, the sweetness and lemon character placing it closer to a citrus liqueur. Taken on those terms it is a fun, fruity mixer for cola, tonic or a summery long drink, but anyone after real rum structure should look elsewhere in the range.
