A cask-strength 2013 Mauritian cane-juice rum bottled by Ferroni, a rich and gourmand pour at 62.4%, layering pastry, vanilla and coconut over toasted wood, fresh cane and a hay-tinged finish.
Description
Ferroni, the French craft house from Provence known for its cask-strength brut de fut bottlings, has selected this Mauritian rum from the 2013 vintage. Made from fresh-pressed sugar-cane juice, it is agricole-style rather than a protected agricole, since Mauritius sits outside the French AOC, and it pairs cane freshness with a notably rich, dessert-like body.
Distilled on a column still and bottled at a hefty 62.4%, it pushes a gourmand, pastry-forward profile. The nose is woody and buttery with smoke and roasted almonds, while the palate brings more wood, vanilla, roasted notes and a vegetal cane edge. The finish turns toasted with a vegetal streak, coconut and hay. The effect blends agricole-style freshness with wood spice and a creamy, pastry richness that gives it real presence. Powerful and characterful, it is a serious cane-juice rum for experienced palates who want intensity alongside tropical depth.
