Savanna Métis

Savanna on Reunion makes several rum families, and Metis sits at the light, accessible end, a molasses based rum bottled unsweetened at 40%. It is built for easy, everyday use rather than the wild ester intensity the distillery is also known for.

The profile is gentle and fruity, with banana, apricot and citrus on the nose, a touch of vanilla, and a light, slightly vegetal character. The palate is thin and soft, with citrus and cane, and the finish stays light, all banana, citrus and vanilla. There is little weight or depth here by design. Where it earns its place is behind the bar, an unsweetened, fruit forward mixer that works nicely in light cocktails and tall drinks, rather than a rum to sit and contemplate.
