A cask strength Foursquare from 2007 at thirteen years and 63.2%, vivid with orange marmalade, pineapple and citrus over dark chocolate, cappuccino and warm oak, intense and brandy-like, best neat in small pours.
Description
This Tres Hombres Captain's Choice bottling is a 2007 Foursquare, the dry, additive-free Barbados rum from Richard Seale's St Philip distillery, where double-retort pot still is blended with twin-column Coffey rum. At thirteen years and a full 63.2% it is an intense, high-strength pick with a brandy-like fruit lift.
The molasses spirit, aged in ex-bourbon oak, leads with orange, caramel and cinnamon on the nose, then orange, marmalade and a green, elegant edge on the palate, with spice, roasted notes and dark chocolate on the finish. Citrus marmalade and pineapple sit alongside cappuccino, vanilla and warm oak, the fruit notably vivid against the wood. The 63.2% runs hot, so small neat pours suit it best. A bold, warming Foursquare for drinkers who enjoy the distillery's strongest releases and want something especially citrus-forward.
