Mauritian rum falls outside the AOC agricole term, so its cane-juice and molasses spirits are described as agricole-style.

The profile is led by added vanilla and spice rather than by distillation character: vanilla dominates the nose and palate, joined by the warm spice notes of the spiced-rum recipe and, by some accounts, a slightly hot, not fully integrated alcohol.
