Isautier Arrangé – Cacahouète

Isautier is a historic Reunion distillery, and its Arrange Cacahouete is a flavoured rum rather than a straight rhum, a base spirit steeped to deliver a frank peanut profile. This sits firmly among sweet, novelty leaning arranges, where the maceration and sugar define the drink far more than the underlying cane spirit.

There is no mistaking what it is, with roasted nuts and peanut butter dominating the nose, the palate and the finish in equal measure. At 17% it is very low in strength and openly sweet, drinking like a liquid peanut dessert with a faint rum warmth rather than anything resembling a dry sipper. On its own terms it is fun and distinctive, the sort of bottle that earns its place as a sweet treat to pour alongside dessert or over ice cream. Anyone expecting Reunion cane character will not find it here, but those after a rich, nutty, indulgent novelty will be well served.
