From Saint James, Martinique's historic house dating to 1765, this Habitation La Salle VSOP is a single-estate cuvee distilled from fresh sugar-cane juice. Under the island's AOC, the VSOP designation requires at least four years in oak, and at five years this sits comfortably within the aged tier.
Maturation in ex-bourbon wood draws the grassy cane core into savoury, oak-driven territory: chocolate, nuts and roasted coffee over fruit, with a peppery, woody finish. Unsweetened and bottled at 42%, it stays dry and food-friendly rather than sweet, dried fruit, cherry and a floral, grassy thread keeping the agricole identity intact beneath the oak.
