A gentle Marie-Galante agricole rested a year in ex-bourbon, offering fresh sugar cane, orange peel and soft vanilla over a dry, lightly woody frame, an honest and affordable way into cane juice rum at 45%.
Description
Bielle is one of Marie-Galante's characterful distilleries, known for cane variety experiments and high proof blancs, and this Ambre is a young, lightly aged take distilled from fresh pressed sugar cane rather than molasses. With around a year in ex bourbon oak it falls into the ambre tier, gentle wood layered over the freshness of the cane, and is poured at a comfortable 45%.
The nose offers fresh sugar cane sap, orange peel and soft vanilla, with the fruit and light oak in easy balance. The palate turns drier and a touch grassier, with cane, gentle spice and a lemon and nutmeg lift on the finish. It makes a clear, unfussy introduction to the agricole style, showing the cane juice character without the high proof bite of a Marie-Galante blanc, and it earns its keep as a good value everyday sipper.
