A three year Cuban-style añejo from Destilería Heriberto Duquesne at 40%, light and column-distilled with green apple, banana and yellow fruit over a young, woody palate and a brief, oily finish.
Description
Vacilon is produced at Destilería Heriberto Duquesne and bottled here under the Cubata banner, a column still molasses rum carrying three years of age in ex-bourbon wood and sitting at a standard 40%. It belongs to the lighter, cleaner Spanish-influenced school, where the column still keeps the spirit bright and the bourbon barrels add only gentle colour and structure.
The nose is the most expressive part, fruity and fresh with green apple, banana and yellow orchard fruit. The palate is younger and rawer, woody and a touch hot with a strong, spirity edge, and the finish is short and slightly oily. There is no great depth here, which is typical of a young, lightly aged column rum at entry strength, but the fruit-led aromatics give it some charm. It earns its keep as an easygoing pour and a clean, fruity base for cocktails rather than a serious sipper.
