A Guyanese single cask from Samaroli, distilled in 2001 at Demerara Distillers and bottled at 15 years from an ex-bourbon barrel, reduced to an easygoing 45% in the house unsweetened, continental aged style.
Description
Samaroli built its reputation on elegant, balanced single casks bottled at deliberately reduced strength, and this 2001 Demerara fits that mould. Distilled at Demerara Distillers in Guyana, it was matured in an ex-bourbon barrel for 15 years and bottled unsweetened at a gentle 45%.
The rum is molasses based, drawn from one of DDL's heritage stills with the precise marque unstated. Expect the brown sugar, light wood and soft dark fruit typical of aged Demerara, the European maturation and lower proof keeping it composed and approachable rather than fiery. A neat, after dinner style of Guyanese rum from a purist bottler.
