A ten year old Brazilian cachaça from Epris, selected by independent Renegade and aged in a former Château Lafite cask from a 1999 vintage, made from fresh pressed cane juice and bottled at 46%.
Description
This is a cachaça, the Brazil only cane spirit, distilled by Epris from fresh pressed, fermented sugar cane juice rather than molasses, the hard line that sets it apart from most rum. Selected by independent bottler Renegade, it is a ten year old from a 1999 vintage aged with a Château Lafite Bordeaux cask influence and bottled at 46%.
Cachaça carries a grassy, vegetal cane core with soft fruity esters, and long ageing here adds a layer of oak and wine cask character on top. The Lafite connection typically lends red fruit and a fine, dry tannic edge. As an aged, wine finished cachaça this sits as a sipping curiosity rather than a caipirinha workhorse, a fresh cane spirit shaped by unusually fine European oak.
