Caroni shut on the Caroni plain in 2003, and the heavy HTR marks it left behind are the ones collectors prize most. This single cask comes from Silver Seal, the collector-respected Italian bottler from Modena working in the unsweetened, full-proof independent tradition. Distilled in 1997 and aged 18 years in ex-bourbon oak, it is bottled at a sociable 46%. The heavy Caroni house style typically delivers tar, burnt rubber, diesel and machine oil over dark dried tropical fruit, smoke, liquorice and deep oak, oily and dense, the archetypal industrial Trinidad rum. At 46% the proof is approachable while the heavy mark keeps the savoury, petroleum intensity front and centre. A finite pour from a source that cannot be remade.
